Coach Rose Retirement - EBSC Transition Plan

Brent Boock

Elmbrook Swim Club,

It is with bittersweet sentiment that we share that Coach Mike Rose will be retiring from coaching with the Elmbrook Swim Club in August of 2026. This upcoming 2026 Long Course season will be the last of his storied career with the Elmbrook Swim Club. We celebrate his career and wish him the best as he relocates to Minneapolis this August to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

For decades Mike has been a leader in the Elmbrook swimming community. He has coached at every level from Novice to Senior, spending the last decade as Head Age Group Coach. Mike’s positive contributions and impact on generations of Elmbrook swimmers, families, staff, and community members are unparalleled.

Thank you, Mike, for everything you have done for the Elmbrook Swim Club! And thank you to the Rose family for sharing Mike with our swimming community!

While we have some time before saying goodbye to Mike, we are planning a transition and some additional changes to the coaching structure at Elmbrook. While losing Coach Rose is a great loss, we are excited for some positive developments in the Elmbrook coaching structure.

Beginning with the upcoming Long Course 2026 season the following coaching realignment will take place:

EBSC will be increasing the scope of the “Head Age Group Coach” position. In general, this position will have the responsibility under the direction of the “Head Coach” of overseeing all 12&U programming, 12&U Staff, Elmbrook Swim School, and directly coaching the Age Group I&II training groups.

The new “Head Age Group Coach” position allows for developmental oversight of the full Novice through Age Group progression. He will work closely with the current lead coaches.

Coach Matt Gardner will be shifting into the role of “Head Age Group Coach” at the beginning of the Long Course 2026 season.

Coaches Mike Rose and Matt Gardner will share the coaching responsibilities for the Age Group I&II training groups in a transition period over the course of the Long Course 2026 season. We are excited to have Matt take on this challenge!

Coach Carissa Paasch will assume the role of Senior II lead coach. Coach Carissa has a proven track record working with the SII&IV groups as well as the Brookfield Central Girls High School Team. We are excited for Carissa to assume this new role.

Coach Maggie Teng will assume the role of Senior III&IV lead coach. Maggie has been transitioning into this role for the past year working alongside Coach Carissa Paasch. We are excited for Maggie to take on this “lead coach” position with the Elmbrook Swim Club.

As always, we will have a strong pool of assistant coaches at all levels, and we anticipate our lead coaches will make frequent guest appearances at practices  across all levels of the program, ensuring continuity and alignment in our developmental coaching philosophy.

We will never be able to replace Mike Rose! However, we feel we have a transition and pathway forward that will have a positive and lasting impact on the

Elmbrook Swim Club.

Go Gators!
