Elmbrook Masters Swimming
Elmbrook Masters is a fun and competitive swim club for swimmers aged 18 and older.
We have registration twice annually – in the fall for our indoor or “short course” season, and in May for our outdoor or “long course” season.
We are professionally coached by the Elmbrook Swim Club coaching staff. Our members enjoy swimming in a wide variety of competitions – local, state and national meets, open water races as well as in triathlons. All of our members are USMS registered Masters swimmers and enjoy the benefits of masters swimming.
If you are interested in more information or joining, please contact Matt Gardner at [email protected]. We do have pool space constraints, so all new member requests are on a first come, first served basis, and all prospective swimmers try out a practice or two with us before they join.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Where are practices held? For our Fall/Winter indoor 'short course' session, we swim at both the Brookfield Central and East High School pools. In the Spring/Summer outdoor 'long course' session, we swim in both the high school pools and outdoors at Wiberg Aquatic Center at Wirth Park once the pool opens in mid-June.
Q. When are practices held? NEW BEGINNING IN FALL OF 2025 - EBSC will be offering two morning and two evening practice options each week. EBSC welcomes Coach Molly Strahota who will be running morning practices for those interested in fitness and recreation, and Coach Matt Gardner will be leading the evening training sessions for those interested in competing. Although you are asked to register for a specific practice group (AM or PM), there is flexibility between practice times if you have a conflict.
In general, there are two practice/group each week. The morning group trains for one hour and the evening group trains for an hour and a half. The start times vary depending on other users of the pools (high school teams and EBSC age group swimmers), but Masters typically start at 5:30 AM and anywhere between 5:30 and 6:30 PM. Practices are listed on the team schedule under the CALENDAR tab. Masters is labeled 'M', and if you see M-C-6:30 on the calendar, that means Masters are swimming at Central at 6:30 PM. (E=East and W=Wirth.) In our summer session, we have also hold practices Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 6:00 - 7:00 AM and Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Please double check the practice schedule for all practice times.
Q. How much does it cost? Registration fees differ by training group and are determined by the Board of Directors each season.
Q. How do I get on the team? There are generally about 40 swimmers on the team. Current swimmers get the first opportunity to sign up for the upcoming season. Registration is then made available to new members dependent on group size. This is done on a first-come, first-served basis. ALL new swimmers must come and try out a practice or two before signing up. Occasionally we have spots available mid-season. Please contact Matt ([email protected]) if you are interested in joining.
Q. How does the registration process work? Once you have attended a practice and there is confirmation of available space, you will receive link to our online registration system. Fees are paid online by credit card. In addition, all swimmers must be registered with Wisconsin Masters/U.S. Masters (USMS) swimming for the current calendar year. This is critical for insurance purposes. More information about USMS can be found on the Wisconsin Masters website, https://www.wisconsinmastersswimming.com/page.cfm?pagetitle=Join
When signing up for Wisconsin/USMS Masters, our Workout Group is EBM, Elmbrook Masters.
Q. What do I need to bring to practice/what can I expect at practice? Swimmers are responsible for their own equipment, which normally includes fins, pull buoy and kickboard. At practice, the lanes are organized by speed, so swimmers of similar speed swim together. Practices are structured with workouts that build over the season to target particular meets that swimmers are looking to attend, particularly Wisconsin Masters State Meet in spring, as well as Spring USMS National Championships.
Q. Do I need to participate in meet competitions to be on the team? Participation in meets is highly recommended, and our members enjoy racing and competing throughout the year in a variety of competitions. Each swimmer has their own competition goals, while we also have a strong team atmosphere. Current and past meet schedules are shown on the Wisconsin Masters website.
Q. If I have an injury/medical issue or cannot partipate for the full session due to other commitments, can I get a partial refund of my registration fees? Please see EBSC's Medical Leave Policy under the DOCUMENTS tab.
